Tanya receiving at her award from
TV
presenter Richard Hammond in September 2005 |
It was the
accolade of
Young Engineer for Britain that made a very important
decision for Tanya.
Tanya says
"Having won this award I know I want to study engineering".
So, added to the prize of £2,500 and a place to compete at
the Intel International Science and Engineering Fair in
Indiana, Tanya has settled on engineering as her career
path. Tanya’s invention ‘the Hypo Hoist’ is a man-overboard
recovery system that recovers a casualty, conscious or
unconscious from the water, whilst maintaining a horizontal
attitude. Tanya got the idea for the device while taking
part in a man overboard exercise and immediately realised
how difficult the task can be.
The ‘Hypo Hoist’ was one
amongst many of the brilliant inventions and innovations at
the final that displayed an awareness of the overlooked
problems in our world today. |
Tanya's Timeline
of Achievements
Young Engineer for Britain competition
In September 2005 I got through to the Finals of the Young Engineer

For Britain 2005! And the winner of a special award for innovative
use of Technology, presented to me by TV host Richard Hammond. |
Royal
Academy of Engineering
October 2005; I
participated, with Young Engineers, in the launch of the
Royal Academy of Engineering’s ‘Shape the Future’ campaign
at the London Science museum. The aim was to help the
engineering community to improve its efforts to raise
awareness of engineering and technology as a stimulating
career option and an essential and exciting part of modern
Britain. |
